AD75: How Things Evolved in 2024

29 December 2024 | Issue #75

In this issue:

  • Top-clicked articles from the past year of After Design

Looking back on a full year of After Design, reviewing the links you clicked on the most is interesting. Earlier in the year, you tended to be more interested in AI and its impact to your job and career.

As the year went on, you tended to click on articles focused on design and marketing.

I use Bitly to track the links in the LinkedIn version of this newsletter. I don't pay for Bitly, so I can't easily sort based on engagements. But, I did a copy/paste for the page, dropped that into an Excel spreadsheet, and uploaded it to ChatGPT, and asked it to format the spreadsheet so it was sortable using the following prompt:

Please reformat this spreadsheet. Please identify the common areas (title, bit.ly link, link, number of engagements, date, Tags, Copy, Share). These should be broken up by different columns. Column D should only have the number; remove "engagement" and "engagements." Output to a csv.

Here are the top articles from the past year.

(Also, happy 75th issue/birthday to my Mom)

Klarna has announced its intention to leverage AI for increased efficiency, cutting its workforce significantly while enhancing operational output.

AI-Driven Job Reductions: Klarna plans to reduce its headcount from 3,800 to 2,000, attributing the cuts to AI’s ability to perform tasks with greater efficiency.

Design Quote of the Week

“The best way to accomplish serious design…is to be totally and completely unqualified for the job.”
– Paula Scher

My AI disclaimer: I write the main stories by hand (with occasional assistance from Grammarly). The quick news hits are articles I've found, which I run through a ChatGPT prompt to generate the synopsis and bullet points. However, I write the My Take bullet. If AI generates the images, I include the prompt so you can see how I got to that image. Nothing in this newsletter, or anything I publish anywhere, reflects the views of my employer.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great New Year!
